At the moment, we are looking at a weekly update and hopefully with time (and more contributors), we would be able to do more updates and eventually create a nice big database of local talents.

Shirlyn Tan www.myspace.com/shirlyntan
32 years old

• a brief introduction
Rocking her way into our heart, Shirlyn is a singer-songwriter who came into the scene officially when she launched her debut album "Newfound Jealousy" in 2007.

Frontgirl for The UnXpected, they have been rocking the crowds away at Wala Wala, Balaclava and Timbre . Listening to Shirlyn, you can't help but feel the urge to race off towards the sunset (well, that's general the feeling I get from listening to good music:), all the while her voice playing in your head.

Her first ever onstage performance was 4 Non-Blondes "What's Up" and in 2007, she won Singapore Music Awards 2007 for Best Song - Window. Let's hope this pint-size rocker will continue to rock us till our bones creak.

Corrinne May | www.corrinnemay.com
34 years old
Capricorn

• a brief introduction
Corrinne May is a Singaporean singer-songwriter currently based in Los Angeles. Corrinne was born on January 19, 1973 and was named after her mother's favourite song, "Corinna, Corinna".

She studied in Raffles Girls' Primary School, Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) and Raffles Junior College. At the National University of Singapore, she majored in mass communications and English literature before leaving for Berklee College of Music to further her music education. And in 1999, she re-located to Los Angeles in order to pursue her dreams in music fully.

"Fly Away" was her debut album in which "Mr Beasley", we are not shy to say, is an old favourite of ours. In September 2004, Corrinne May became the first (and only) artist singing exclusively in English, to be signed by the record label Forward Music in Taiwan, which distributes her music to Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong and China.

• fresh from the grapevine
Corrinne released her 4th album, Beautiful Seed, officially in Singapore on August 6, 2007.

• last thoughts
"Amidst the myriad of dazzling singers in the industry today, I still remember clearly the lyrics of Corrinne's Mr Beaseley. That striking honesty and quiet beauty that touches the heart deeply"

The people behind the blog

Henry | www.mujiri.com
A interactive designer by day and swashbuckling illustrator by night, Henry spends most of his time in front of the computer dreaming up the next design or illustration. And when he is away from the computer, he is dreaming up the different nice things his fiancee can do for him, which sadly doesn't often comes true:P.

He founded IAFS as place to showcase the many talents from Singapore and hopefully in the process, helps to bring them closer to the masses.

Not So Long Ago
|

it started like this...

"There was a local movie with a name made up of just numerals, which was one of the better films shown this year. And halfway through the show, there was this updated piece of an old hokkien favorite that was at the same time achingly beautiful and strangely familiar.

A search on the net for the person behind this updated piece only revealed a name. And after really, really much searching ... zilch"

and this is how it began,
to create a place to showcase the many talented individuals from the little red dot and create a little slice of immortality for them.

In a little red nutshell

We have all come across many talented individuals hailing from Singapore, whose names might not be too familiar to your neighbourhood aunty. Perhaps it was a moving piece in some movie's soundtrack or an understated article in some obscure magazine, there are many talents out there unseen and their only contact with us is perhaps through their brilliant work that briefly touches our lives.

"I Am From Singapore" is all about the many talented individuals from our little garden city. From virtuoso singers to dazzling photogs, we hope to shed some light on their talents and perhaps in the process brings the masses closer to them. There isn't a little black rule book about whom we feature but we promise (cross our hearts) to keep on writing about the many talents from our little red dot.
